VOICES FROM THE FIELD Explore practical examples from the field of how educators are adapting to serve all students in the era of remote learning. Educators share technical descriptions of how they are working to move from face-to-face to at-a-distance learning with reflections and lessons learned about their experiences. These cases are for the field and we will continue to add more - use the forum to tell us what kinds of practical examples you need! Please note: We have gathered stories and examples from schools and educators working hard to continue educating students with disabilities in the rapidly evolving situation around COVID-19. Our aim is to share information and inspire potential ways educators may incorporate these approaches in their individual school settings. While we know everyone is working hard and doing their best, we also have to recognize that, in the interest of getting information out to the field as expeditiously as possible, these approaches are too early to demonstrate outcomes and/or an evidence base prior to sharing. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the many ways in which public schools strengthen the fabric of community life and provide a safety net for our most vulnerable students. Rapidly evolving school closures and remote operation of schools are presenting tremendous challenges to families, students, educators, and administrators alike. Each and every student deserves to learn in a supportive environment where they can thrive. The one in 13 young people in the United States who receive special education services are the most likely to benefit from inclusive and equitable school management. Remote school operation is on course to compound and further exacerbate the disparities imposed by race and class for students who receive special education services. As schools shift to online learning, the needs of students with disabilities are too often put on the back burner—instead, they must be considered from the beginning. Family communication, online instruction, teleconferencing and counseling, independent study, blended learning, needs assessment, and data tracking and analytics are each stronger and more effective when they are designed to meet the needs of all learners. The Educating All Learners Alliance (EALA) is an uncommon coalition of organizations committed to resource sharing and community-building that supports the efforts of the education community to meet the needs of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are committed to showing the path to possible for practitioners by providing curated, searchable resources, access to experts, and examples from the field. MEET ALLIANCE PARTNERS ASK FOR HELP TIP OF THE WEEK As teachers move to support the classrooms in a remote learning context - models for co-teaching and team teaching - should shift.
